Microplastics are everywhere in our environment. It’s hardly surprising that the tiny fragments have also been found in the human body. A new study shows that Americans are consuming as many as 121,000 particles each year. Measuring 50 to 500 microns in length, microplastics come from a variety of sources, including large plastics that break down into smaller and smaller pieces. Therefore, much remains unknown about the common existence of these materials within the human body, as well as the impact on human health. Hoping to fill in some of these gaps, a research team, led by Kieran Cox, a Ph. D.candidate at the University of Victoria, looked at 26 papers assessing the number of microplastics in commonly consumed food items, among which are seafood, sugar, salt, honey, alcohol and water. The team also evaluated the potential consumption of microplastics through inhalation (吸入) using previously reported data on microplastic concentrations in the air and the Environmental Protection Agency’s data on respiration rates. Based on these data, the researchers calculated that our annual consumption of microplastics via foods and drinks ranges from 39,000 to 52,000 particles. When microplastics taken in through inhalation are taken into account, the range jumps to between 74,000 and 121,000 particles per year.

The authors of the study found that people who drink exclusively from plastic water bottles absorb additional 90,000 microplastics each year, compared with 4,000 among those who only consume tap water. ―This shows that small decisions, over the course of a year, really matter and have an impact.‖ Cox says. The new study, according to its authors, was the first to investigate ―the accumulative human exposure to microplastics‖. But in all likelihood, the research tells only a small part of the entire story. Collectively, the foods and drinks that the researchers analyzed represent 15 percent of Americans’ caloric intake. The team could not account for food groups like fruits, vegetables and grain because there simply is not enough data on their microplastic content. For those who worried about microplastic consumption, cutting down bottled water is a good place to start. But for the heart of the problem, we have to stop producing and using so many plastics. 1.What makes it difficult to know microplastics commonly exist in the human body? A.The quality of microplastics. B.The quantity of microplastics. C.The size of microplastics. D.The shape of microplastics. 2.How did Kieran Cox’s team calculate the potential consumption of microplastics? A.By analyzing existing data. B.By comparing the impact. C.By studying papers. D.By conducting experiments. 3.What can we know according to the text? A.The study is among the earliest ones to investigate human exposure to microplastics. B.Drinking less plastic bottle water helps to take in fewer microplastics.

C.Cox’s team gained comprehensive information of microplastics taken in by humans. D.People consume 74,000 to 121,000 particles of microplastics per year from foods and drinks. 4.What is the best title for the text? A.The Potential Problems of Microplastics B.Microplastics Found Within Human Bodies C.Microplastics Coming From Various Sources D.The Impact of Microplastes on Human Health

It used to be mostly the military that used small, unpiloted aircraft, called "drones". The little planes were very costly. But as they have dropped in price more people have begun to use them. Rescue workers and farmers are among the new users. The fast rate of the development of computer technology, image sensing devices, satellite navigation and smartphones has led to lower-priced drones. Researchers and developers have learned how to build smaller and less-costly drones, Moviemakers are using drones to film from the sky. Historians use them when they explore ancient buildings. Rescue workers use them to look for people. And now farmers are using them to watch over their crops. Romain Faroux is a French businessman who starts companies. His father was a farmer. He believed drones could help farmers. He helped create a company that developed a small drone that could be controlled by people on the ground. They called it "Agridrone". It uses a special "optical sensor" to examine crops. The technology used is similar to that used by smartphones-except it has wings. A computer program directs the drone to fly over the crops. The sensor on the drone records four different-colored "bands" of sunlight that are reflected off the crops. Jean-Baptiste Bruggeman is a farmer. He says the drone flies over his crops at different times of the season. He says this provides a lot of information about his crops. The drone pictures show him the exact amount of fertilizer the crops need. It also shows exactly where the fertilizer is needed. Romain Faroux says farmers use information collected by the Agridrone to place

fertilizer only in areas where it was needed. This saves money and reduces pollution. Before they used the drones, farmers would put the same amount of fertilizer everywhere. Drones also save time because farmers can examine up to three hectare in about a minute. 8.Why do rescue workers and farmers begin to use drones? A.Drones can monitor their cattle. B.Drones" prices have dropped. C.Drones can help them get more business. D.Drones" sizes become smaller. 9.What can the drones developed by Romain Farour"s company do? A.Explore ancient buildings. B.Put fertilizer on the crops. C.Help farmers examine their crops. D.Help rescue workers look for people. 10.What can the sensor on the drone do? A.Help the sunlight shine the crops. B.Direct the plane to fly over the crop. C.Examine the different colors of the. D.Record the sunlight reflected off the crops. 11.According to the text, the use of the drone is _________. A.environment-friendly B.wasteful C.costly D.safe

Recently, Israeli researchers discovered dance movement therapy (治疗)can be used as an enjoyable and effective tool to promote exercise, boost mood, improve quality of life and create intergenerational closeness. The findings are published in the journal Frontiers in Psychology. Researchers from the Kibbutzim College and University of Haifa in Israel hired 16 dance movement therapists to meet with their grandmothers for three free-form dance lessons, whose goal was to see how these lessons would affect each group, and whether intergenerational links might strengthen. The researchers also wanted to examine a potential low-cost method to treat issues commonly faced by an aging population, such as depressed mood and limited mobility.

Shuper Engelhard from the University of Haifa analyzed the videos of the lessons, personal diaries, and semi-structured interviews between granddaughters and grandmothers, she found that for grandmothers dancing promoted positive feelings and mood. For granddaughters, dancing changed their views of aging and allowed them to face their grandparent"s eventual death. Both groups expressed gratitude and felt their link was stronger than before. Shuper Engelhard said familiarity was important to the success. The dancing lessons promoted physical activity even when the body was fatigued and weak,― Shuper Engelhard says. "This emphasizes the significance of the close and familiar relationship as a means to promote new experiences for the older person. However, the research had some limitations as only 32 individuals participated, and although the study was open to grandchildren of all genders, all participants were female. Besides, all granddaughters in this study were dance movement therapists. Shuper Engelhard would like to conduct similar research in other populations. With an activity as simple and accessible as free-form dancing, aging populations can improve their physical and mental health and also connect with their loved ones. 12.How did the researchers reach their conclusion? A.By testing a potential cheap method. B.By finding out the connections between gaps. C.By setting up an experiment of dance lessons. D.By treating some diseases faced by aging populations. 13.What is the main idea of the third paragraph? A.The ideas about aging. B.The result of the research. C.The characteristic of videos. D.The reaction of the research team. 14.What does the underlined word ―fatigued― in paragraph 4 mean? A.Perfect. B.Sensitive. C.Tired. D.Energetic.

15.What would probably be the next step of the research? A.Involving male participants in the dance classes. B.Analyzing the dance"s features in different ages. C.Releasing the final result to the public. D.Finding out the limits of the research.

The advent of high-tech era is still based on the development of human ability to use tools. From ancient times,

16.. The positive aspects of these abilities were dug out by human survival instinct, while the negative ones were ignored because they were insignificant. When organized civilization began to appear on the earth, people began to make vehicles. On the positive side,

17.. On the negative side, they made the burden of slaves heavier and increased the possibility of

civilian uprising During the alternation period between the middle ages and the modern world in the 17th and 19th centuries, when the industrial revolution was flourishing, there were many great inventions in the hands of human beings, such as the steam engine and many factories. 18.. The positive side provided a solid foundation for scientific exploration, greatly enhanced the power, and greatly enhanced the carrying capacity. The negative side is that the environmental pollution is greatly aggravated. In the 20th century, mankind began to use nuclear energy, and the advantages gained from the 17th to 19th centuries continued to grow substantially. 19..But at the same time, the negative effects were also increasing secretly. The leakage of nuclear energy makes the economy of some countries face collapse (such as Japan), and as long as a terrorist has

mastered the code for launching a nuclear bomb, human life in the world will be at stake. In the 21st century, the positive and negative aspects brought about by nuclear deterrence have stabilized and stopped growing.

20.. But the disadvantages are inevitable. For example, the Internet makes many netizens addicted to the Internet, the network crime is rampant, and the development of artificial intelligence to a certain extent may produce self-consciousness, and it is possible to resist human beings with its high intelligence. As for the follow-up, we can only see how human beings decide their own direction A.human beings began to learn to use stone axes to cut down trees and drill wood for fire B.In addition, nuclear deterrence stabilized the world situation, especially with the coming of the next World War C.There are both advantages and disadvantages in science and technology. We should treat the rapid development of science and technology with correct eyes D.they mainly enhanced the carrying capacity and had more functions E.The positive and negative aspects increased in proportion F.However, the Internet, artificial intelligence, new energy development and other emerging fields have greatly benefited mankind G.So we should resist the bad factors to promote the further development of science and technology

 (2020·浙江高三月考)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。

It’s a perfect family summer seaside holiday. Occasionally some white clouds floated across the blue sky. The sandy beach was soft and comfortable. The water was glistering in the morning sunlight and the surf was cool on their feet as Krin and Paula leisurely walked

along the water edge. The brother and sister began to make some sandcastles. Not far away, mother sat under a big umbrella, reading a book with a bottle of lemonade in her hand. Father was busy exchanging a few words of greetings with the strangers he met on the beach.

Suddenly, Krin spotted some pieces of seashells lying scattered on the picturesque beach and small holes stretching along it where the crabs had hidden. He immediately invited Paula to collect shells and search the holes together with him. They were having a ball exploring what appeared to be a never-ending beach. After a while, they stopped and looked back. Their parents and the umbrellas, beach chairs, and crowds were a long way off. But just ahead, hidden amongst sea grape trees stood a run-down house that seemed to be out of repair for years. It appeared to be unoccupied. Curious, they went to investigate. The front steps to the doorway of the house creaked (嘎吱作响) as they carefully climbed up them, so did the porch when they stepped onto it. The dusty windows and porch railing (门廊 栏杆) were badly weathered and broken. The front door was half open so they squeezed through and cautiously entered. The place was in a total mess, covered with dust, sand, dead leaves, and overturned furniture. They’d taken but a few steps when the door unexpectedly slammed shut behind them. Scared, Krin and Paula were frozen to the spot. But before they could even utter something like ―Oh-oh,‖ the windows abruptly closed, too. And if this wasn’t scary enough, the stairs to the second floor creaked loudly. When a light in the back bedroom flickered (摇曳), that was absolutely the final straw.
